Why these aartis matter

An aarti is sung at the close of puja while a lit lamp is circled before the deity — both these hymns are staples of that moment, especially through the eleven days of Ganesh Chaturthi.

  • Shendur Laal Chadhayo centres on Ganesha's iconography — his vermilion-anointed face, his form, and his identity as Vighnaharta, remover of obstacles.
  • Jai Ganesh Deva is the most widely sung Ganesh aarti across North India, naming his parents Shiva and Parvati and listing the blessings devotees seek: sight, health, offspring, and prosperity.
  • Both are traditionally sung standing, with hands folded, as the aarti lamp completes its circles before the murti.
